11 second club competition

Every month, the 11 Second Club posts a dialogue scene around 11 seconds for 2D, 3D and Stop Motion Animators to animate to. The submissions are then judged and ranked after the month ends. I decided to participate in July’s competition using original characters with given dialogue from Only Murders in the Building. I designed two original characters, staged and roughed out my scene, and animated a fun, clear dialogue between them. I placed Top 10 out of 107 entries.

Final animation above. Below is a turnaround and poses for Julien and relevant progress shots.

After building the turnaround, I picked a few poses that I felt would showcase Julien’s jaunty personality during the scene.

My first pass was a very rough outline focusing on placing fence posts for timing and acting beats.

For this next pass I started to hone in on anatomy and specific designs for key poses. I also added in breakdowns and any necessary anticipation and settles that might help describe the movement better.

This was the last pass before final edits (I made tiny tweaks to timing in some areas) and without the addition of a background.
